Mounting service: mounting pictures & posters on different boards
Lamination is the "mounting" of a flexible material onto a rigid solid substrate. A typical application is the presentation of a picture, photo or poster in a picture frame, appropriately mounted separately on a cardboard to avoid waviness due to fluctuations in humidity.
Mounting on picture mounting board for later framing:
Laminations on picture board are specially designed for insertion into a picture frame. Avoids ripples with changes in humidity.
Mounting on Kapa lightweight foam boards in 5 and 10 mm thickness:
is used for short-term presentations, e.g. in advertising, or for mounting posters and prints that are still framed.
Mounting on forex hard foam board:
PVC rigid foam board in white. Robust plate, but relatively heavy, which is well suited for exhibition boards or for subsequent framing. The material is cheaper than aluminum Dibond, but in large format somewhat "wobbly", so our recommendation is rather the Dibond plate. Forex can also be printed directly.
Mounting on Dibond aluminum composite panel:
ideally suited for high-quality and durable lamination. Much used for mounting photos in the gallery area, because even without framing attractive simple and reduced look. But can also be printed directly.
The processing of delivered materials, such as prints or plates as well as the originals is at the risk of the client.
On request and according to technical feasibility, the mounted image can be laminated with a front UV protective film in matte, satin or glossy. This is not possible with all materials. We will be happy to advise you on this.
Our mounting boards:
Cardboard – mounting for later framing: Lamination on picture board is specifically designed for insertion into a picture frame. Larger photo prints or posters without reinforcement could curl in the frame depending on the humidity and paper thickness used. Therefore, they should be mounted on a cardboard for framing. Our Nielsen picture board is self-adhesive and has a thickness of 1.5 mm. Maximum size is 150 x 100 cm.
Kapa lightweight foam panels in 5 and 10 mm thickness: Lightweight foam board with white top layer and gray core, quite sensitive edges. Available in 5 u. 10 mm. Used for quick presentations or for mounting prints and posters that are still framed. Very light and quite stiff. However, tends to curl in larger sizes without counter lamination.
Forex hard foam board: PVC rigid foam board with white surface. Robust but relatively heavy and not particularly stiff in larger formats. Available from us in 5 mm or other thicknesses on request. This is a relatively inexpensive lamination, e.g. for exhibition boards or for subsequent framing.
Dibond aluminum composite panel: Aluminum composite panels with a 0.3 mm aluminum top layer on both sides with a white stove enamel finish and an internal polyethylene core. Very straight, distortion-free and ideally suited for high-quality and durable laminations. Widely used in photographic applications as attractive appearance even without framing. Can hang with spacers quasi optically "free-floating in front" of the wall - long-lasting, uv-resistant and moisture-resistant.
The processing of delivered materials, as well as originals is at the risk of the client.
How long does it take to make my picture?
In our product or category descriptions, you will find the average production times or the exact printing dates and deadlines for data submission.
I am unsure if the size of my image is sufficient. What can I do?
We check your data for the appropriate resolution for the desired size and whether the image proportions fit. If there are any problems or ambiguities, we will contact you.
What is the exact ordering process?
You either order your image in our online store Berlinprint.de or send us the file via our individual order with the appropriate info and your wishes noted.
For both order options, after we have successfully reviewed your data, you will receive an e-mail containing our invoice with the payment terms and informing you of the expected completion or shipping date.
If you have paid our invoice in advance, you can come to pick up your print at any time during our business hours from the completion date. Payment on site is possible by German EC card or cash. For staff reasons, however, we are happy if you have already paid in advance. This is possible by bank transfer or Paypal.
If your data is not readily printable, we will contact you in advance to inquire.
Can I pick up my print in person?
You can come to our retail store in Berlin-Friedrichshain for collection at any time from the notified completion date during our business hours from Monday to Friday from 10 am to 5:30 pm. Since we currently do not have the store open directly due to staffing reasons, then please just knock on our door.
How much does it cost to have a photo printed?
Prices for printing a photo start at 30 x 20 cm with 4,02 EUR. The printing price always depends on the chosen material and the size of the image. The resolution of your photo has an influence on which sizes are still well printable.
What format to print photos?
The aspect ratio of the photo should match the aspect ratio of the format to be printed. Many cameras take photos in the aspect ratio of 3:2 or 4:3. This results, for example, in a photo in the format 30 x 20 cm or with the 4:3 aspect ratio the format 40 x 30 cm. Optimal photo file FORMATS are jpg files, as these are not too large due to their compression and are therefore easy to send. But also png and tif are possible.
How can I print pictures from my cell phone?
You can email pictures from your smartphone directly to us on demand and have them printed on high-quality photo paper. Or you can upload your photos to be printed via our webshop during the order process.
If you do not want the picture or print to curl in the frame, you should mount the poster. The cheapest form of mounting posters is picture cardboard. This is intended for insertion into a picture frame. Since larger photo prints or posters without reinforcement can curl in the frame depending on the humidity and the thickness of the paper used, you should mount larger formats or glossy materials, where a ripple is more noticeable due to reflections, on a cardboard for framing.
Notice: The picture board is only conditionally suitable for frameless hanging, as it does not hang completely flat.
Our picture cardboard is self-adhesive and has a thickness of 1.5 mm. Maximum size is 160 x 120 cm.
Papers with a rough back require a special adhesive, which is possible for an additional charge. Just ask us.

Kapa lightweight foam panels in 5 and 10 mm:
Kapa mountings consist of a lightweight foam board with a white top layer and a gray core. The material has quite sensitive edges, which can also yellow over time. Therefore, laminations on Kapa boards are rather suitable only for short-term applications or for framing in a picture frame.Used for short-term presentations or for mounting prints that are then still framed. Very lightweight and quite stiff. However, tends to curl in larger formats without counter-laminating and is therefore only conditionally suitable for frameless hanging.
Our Kapa laminating sheets are self-adhesive on one side and have thicknesses of 5 mm and 10 mm. Maximum panel size is 140 x 100 cm each.
Papers with a rough reverse side are not suitable, as here the adhesive does not hold sufficiently with fluctuations in humidity.
Weight: 1 sqm in 5 mm thickness = 1.1 kg, 1 sqm in 10 mm thickness = 1.3 kg

PVC rigid foam board is a mounting board with white core and white surface, so white colored through. Forex board is robust, but relatively heavy and not particularly rigid in larger formats. It is easy to process and also suitable for signs. If necessary, it can be cut with a cutter knife. Laminations on Forex are available from us in 5 mm or other thicknesses on request, since a large plate must always be ordered for this and therefore there may be waste costs. Poster mounting on Forex is a relatively inexpensive lamination compared to Alu Dibond, which can be used e.g. for exhibition boards or for subsequent framing.
Weight: 1 sqm in 1 mm thickness = 0.7 kg, 5 mm = 3.5 kg/sqm

Alu Dibond panel, aluminum composite panel:
DIBOND® was developed in 1992 by 3A Composites as the world's first aluminum composite panel and is thus the speed handkerchief among aluminum composite panels. Aluminum composite panels consist of a 0.3 mm aluminum top layer on both sides with a high-quality white stove enamel coating and an inner dark gray polyethylene core. Dibond plates are very smooth, straight, virtually warp-free and ideally suited for high-quality and durable laminations. Aluminum Dibond sheets are widely used for photo lamination because they have an attractive appearance even without framing. They can be hung on the wall with spacers so that they look like they are "free-floating". Alu Dibond plates can also be printed directly with UV-curable inks.
Weight: 1 sqm = 3.7 kg in thickness 3 mm.
